Delta County, MI – Officials in Delta County say a mortgage scam is making the rounds.
According to Escanaba Public Safety some residents have received a letter stating their mortgage is in default. A company called American Home Relief Foundation asks customers to call a phone number to get money through a government-sponsored program. Victims are then told to send money on the supposed default and lose the funds.
Officers say most of the people who have gotten such a letter are not in default. They urge residents who receive one to contact their lender and never give out financial information over the phone for any reason.
