Kinross inmate charged in escape attempt

By Nicole Walton

Chippewa County, MI – Additional felony charges have been filed against one of the inmates involved in an escape attempt from the Kinross Correctional Facility last week.

Andrew Joseph Ross, 25, has been charged with carjacking, assault with intent to rob while armed, escape, and conspiracy to commit all three. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

On July 15 Ross and two other inmates, Seth Privacky and Brian Davidson, allegedly overpowered the driver of a semi truck and trailer, drove the truck through a fence, and ran. Ross and Davidson were captured, while Privacky was shot and killed.

Charges against Davidson will not be filed, as he's currently serving life in prison without the chance of parole for first-degree murder.

Chippewa County Prosecutor Brian Peppler was asked to review the shooting and determine if any action should be taken against the officer who shot Privacky. Peppler found the shooting was justified, and commended the officer for handling himself professionally.
