Teen charged with stabbing at Bay Pines facility

By Nicole Walton

Escanaba, MI – A resident of the Bay Pines Youth Detention Center in Escanaba has been charged with stabbing another inmate with a knife last week. Asheeka Tanner, 17, is accused of using a butter knife during the Friday morning attack against an 18-year-old female.

Tanner was arraigned Monday on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. She's currently being held in the Delta County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

The victim was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Authorities say her injuries are not life-threatening.
