Traverse City, MI – A businessman and a former country club golf pro died in a murder-suicide shooting near downtown Traverse City.
Police Captain Steve Morgan identified the victims Friday as Michael Lawton Teter, 49, and William Welch, 44, both local residents. Morgan says in a news release that Welch confronted Teter in a parking lot after a lunch meeting Thursday, made a comment about infidelity and shot Teter twice, killing him. Welch then fatally shot himself.
Police say both men were in the process of divorces. The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Teter had acknowledged in court documents having an affair with Welch's wife.
Teter was president of an orthotics and prosthetics company, while Welch formerly worked as a golf pro at the Traverse City Golf & Country Club.
