Undated – The state's largest teachers union is launching television ads criticizing state lawmakers for cutting money for public schools.
Michigan Education Association President Iris Salters said in a release Thursday that state residents "are fed up" with the lawmakers who voted to cut school funding by hundreds of millions of dollars while giving a $1.7 billion tax break "to rich CEOs and corporate special interests."
Republicans say the business tax cut will improve the state's economy.
The 30-second ad shows a student and adults wondering why money is being cut from school funding. The budget cuts at least $370 per student in the next school year.
Lawmakers finished adopting the budget Thursday for the fiscal year that starts October 1. Democrats opposed the bills and most Republicans voted for them.
