Gas prices rise 7 cents

DEARBORN, MI (AP)--   AAA Michigan says average gas prices statewide have risen about 7 cents in the past week.

The Dearborn-based auto club said late Sunday that the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.93 per gallon. Prices are about 52 cents more than at the same point last year.

Michigan's lowest average price was about $2.85 in the Traverse City area. The highest was about $2.97 in the Ann Arbor area.

The Detroit-area's average was about $2.94, up about 6 cents per gallon.

AAA says gasoline inventories in the Great Lakes and other parts of the central U.S. have declined steadily for eight weeks. Nationally, an increase in demand has lifted pump prices.

AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel prices at 2,800 gas stations across the state.
