New Social District opens in Negaunee this weekend

NEGAUNEE, MI— The City of Negaunee is officially opening its new Downtown Social District on Saturday.

Participating businesses will be able to sell alcohol that can be consumed outside, within a designated Commons Area. Only liquor purchased from a licensed business in a specially marked cup is permitted to be brought into the Commons Area.

City Manager Nate Heffron says the Social District was created to promote economic development in the area by supporting local restaurants, bars, and similar businesses by supplementing outdoor service space. Negaunee’s Downtown Development Authority will ensure all cups are biodegradable.

The District will open at 5 p.m. More information is on the City of Negaunee’s Facebook page.
