DEARBORN, MI— Gas prices in Michigan declined after setting a new 2025-high of $3.32 last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.26 per gallon for regular unleaded, which is 3 cents less than this time last week. This price is 13 cents more than this time last month but still 42 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $48 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $9 from 2024's highest price last July.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 9.29 million b/d to 9.68. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 230 million barrels to 227.9. Gasoline production remained flat, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI is up 55 cents to settle at $64.92 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories decreased by 5.8 million barrels from the previous week. At 415.1 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 11% below the five-year average for this time of year.

Roadways are expected to be busy with a record high 2.4 million Michiganders forecast to hit the roads over the Independence Day holiday week. Drivers across the state will be paying less for gasoline than they did last year on the 4th of July, when the state average was $3.60.

"Drivers preparing to travel for Independence Day will be seeing cheaper prices at the pump this year," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "Gas prices will likely face upward pressure as demand increases ahead of the holiday."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.27 per gallon, about 2 cents less than last week’s average and 33 cents less than this same time last year.
