Birds, Birders, and Birding the UP: How to learn about and enjoy the amazing rich diversity of the birds of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!
The Upper Peninsula has an incredible diversity of avifauna, ranging from melodic songsters that arrive each spring to breed and raise young, to an astonishing array of migrants, some of which are only briefly passing through on migrations taking them over thousands of miles, as well as the resilient species that only appear in our harsh winter climate. This presentation will talk about some of the incredible birds one might see in the UP, and how one can observe and experience these amazing animals, where to go to see birds, and learn some tricks of the trade.
Long-time UP birder Skye Haas is a nature tour leader and long-time field ornithologist who has spent years working as a birder, collecting data for breeding bird atlases, migration watches at various bird observatories, and even far off-shore doing seabird surveys for NOAA.
