Steve Waller will examine the forest in ways you've probably never experienced before. Every U.P. forest landowner, even owners of very small patches of forest, or even a single tree, can help reduce the impacts of climate change if they understand and follow a carbon capture forest strategy. We need to think differently about our forests and how they are used. Most people have heard that forests capture CO2 but how much CO2 does a tree absorb and for how long? How can we best use forests to reduce the impact of global warming? What is the best way today to create and manage forests for maximum CO2 capture?

Steve Waller is a retired technical and environmental educator and writes for local publications. He has taught wind and solar energy classes at Northern Michigan University. For over twenty years his “Reading the Woods” class for the DNR’s BOW program has introduced the public to the workings and intricacies of the U.P. forests. Steve also has the highest iNaturalist.com species count for Marquette County, 1,026 species, found, photographed and identified entirely on his family’s 80 acre forest parcel called the Waller Research Area.
