River Stories by Tow Head Steve

River Stories by Tow Head Steve

Steve Bromley, long time periodic resident of the Keweenaw Peninsula, just completed a 3000 mile 17 month river journey on the rivers of the SE area of the U.S. In 2020, at the age of 67, he set out solo and unassisted from the French Broad River in North Carolina in a 14 foot Mad River canoe. He did this in two parts, stopping after 11 months of continuous paddling because of the Hurricane season. He began again in December of 2021 and ended up back on the French Broad in June of 2022 completing a 3000 mile circumnavigation. The rivers and places he paddled include the French Broad, Tennessee, Ohio, Mississippi, Gulf of Mexico, Suwanee, St. Mary's, the Coastal Islands of Georgia, Savannah River, Strom Thurman Lake, Russel Reed Lake, Hartwell Lake, Keowee Lake and back to the French Broad. His stories of the birds, animals and people he encountered, and the history of the places he visited are heart-warming, inspiring and enlightening.
