UP Focus: Catherine Benda and Carrie Flaspohler Vander Veen

Thursday, January 18, at 6 p.m. - Join us for the opening reception with artists’ talks.

The UP Focus features artists living and working in or inspired by the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The 2024 exhibition features two artists connected to the Copper Country — multi-media artist Catherine Benda and painter Carrie Flaspohler Vander Veen.

Carrie Flaspohler Vander Veen works in gouache paint. She received her BS in architecture from the University of Michigan and her MFA in painting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the Curator/Director of Finlandia Art Gallery in Hancock, Michigan.

Catherine Benda is a multi-media artist working in paint, thread, and paper. She received her BFA from Central Michigan University in painting and drawing. Benda lives and works in Marquette, Michigan, and spent over forty years residing on the shores of Lake Superior.
