Community Calendar

A Public Candidate Forum will be held Tuesday, October 6th, 2026 for Ishpeming Mayoral and City Council candidates running in the November 3rd Midterm Election. All eight candidates have been invited to participate. The League of Women Voters of Marquette County will moderate the Forum.
The Forum will be held in the Ishpeming High School Auditorium, 319 E. Division St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the Forum begins at 6:00 p.m. No campaign clothing, buttons, or hats may be worn by the audience or candidates. The audience may meet and speak with the candidates after the Forum. The Forum will be live-streamed to the LWVMC YouTube Channel and recorded for later viewing.

Each candidate will answer the same questions submitted by constituents. Ishpeming City residents can submit questions by emailing lwvmqtco@gmail.com in advance or by writing them on cards provided at the Forum. Questions may be combined or edited for clarity and pertinence.

The League of Women Voters holds a reputation for conducting candidate forums that are civil, well-organized and fair with no debate or crosstalk. LWV Forums enable each candidate to put forth their vision of the position and respond to constituents. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.

The Marquette Regional History Center presents the Special Exhibit:
The U.P. Through 250 Artifacts
February 23, 2026-January 2, 2027
This exhibit showcases two hundred and fifty artifacts, photographs, and documents from our permanent collections. These objects connect local history to the national story while commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula has often seemed remote from the rest of the country. However, the themes and movements of U.S. history can be seen here as well, especially since the War of 1812. When the country braced for the Civil War, U.P. iron miners raced to uncover iron for the Union army’s railroads and ammunitions. When labor movements exploded following World War II, Ishpeming’s Gossard garment factory went on strike for better wages. Objects rarely on display include the medal awarded to a local Spanish American War nurse and a hand sewn battle flag brought home by a soldier from the War of 1812. The League of Women Voters of Marquette County will hold its next general membership meeting on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. (6:30 p.m. social time) in Studio One, lower level, Peter White Public Library, 217 N. Front St. in Marquette.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
