HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) — A man accused of killing his wife before she started classes at a Michigan university has decided to have a probable cause hearing next week.
The hearing Friday will determine whether Nima Nassiri goes to trial in Houghton County on a charge of second-degree murder. He had waived the hearing earlier this year, before undergoing an exam to determine his mental state at the time of his wife's death.
Defense attorney David Gemignani declined to comment on the results. Sanaz Nezami died from severe head injuries in December, just a few months after arriving in the U.S. from Iran. The heart, lungs and other life-saving organs from the 27-year-old were transplanted to seven people, a rare donation.
