MARQUETTE, MI--   Trial has begun in Marquette for a former Republic police officer charged with criminal sexual conduct.

William Arbelius, 62, of Negaunee is charged with three counts of second-degree CSC.  He’s accused of inappropriately touching a 29-year-old mentally disabled woman on a Marq-Tran bus he was driving in Ishpeming Township earlier this year.

Each charge carries up to 15 years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
