Ishpeming teen facing trial for motorcycle deaths

MARQUETTE, MI--   A trial date has been set for an Ishpeming man charged in the deaths of two motorcyclists in June.

Raymond Anderson, 19, is charged with two counts of moving violation, causing death in the crash that killed 64-year-old Gary Kappler of Ahmeek and 52-year-old Diane Palosaari of Mohawk.  The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Police say June 5 Anderson was driving a rental truck on US-41 when he turned onto Lakeshore Drive and into the path of the motorcyclists, who had the right of way.  They were killed instantly.

Trial is set for October 15 in Marquette County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
