Hit-and-run suspect headed to circuit court

HOUGHTON, MI--   An Atlantic Mine man accused in a hit-and-run accident in Houghton County has been bound over to circuit court. 

Benjamin Riutta, 31, is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death.  He allegedly hit an Atlantic Mine woman walking along Obenhoff Road in Adams Township March 10.

Riutta faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.  His arraignment is set for April 13 in Houghton County Circuit Court. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
