Woman charged in infant's death headed to circuit court

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   An Iron River woman accused of killing a baby under her care has been bound over to circuit court. 

Brittany Russell, 25, was allegedly taking care of three-month-old PennyAnn MacDonald last June when the infant sustained injuries.  The baby died three days later. 

Russell is charged with homicide felony murder and first-degree child abuse.  She faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
