Trial scheduled for accused infant torturer

MARQUETTE, MI--   A trial date has been set for a West Branch Township man accused of torturing a baby.

Nicholas Racine, 27, was arrested in June in connection with injuries sustained by a three-month-old infant.  The baby had cracked ribs, bruised eyes, head trauma, and a possible bite mark on his arm.

Racine is charged with torture and first-degree child abuse.  A motion hearing is scheduled for September 25, a pretrial hearing on November 6, and his trial is set to begin December 1.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
