MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   It took two-and-a-half hours for a jury to return a guilty verdict for a Forsyth Township man on trial for setting a fire that killed his girlfriend.

Closing arguments in the trial of Steven Zintman, 46, were presented Thursday morning.  The defense said Zintman’s alcoholism affected his memory and caused his story of what happened to vary.  The prosecution talked about Zintman’s history of domestic violence.

The fire killed Sally Plume, who was his girlfriend at the time.

Zintman was found guilty of felony murder and first-degree arson following four days of trial.  He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
