Family sues Gwinn School District for negligence

GWINN, MI--   A family is suing the Gwinn Area School District over the death of their daughter in a gym last year.

AmarahFilizetti, 4, was playing in the Gwinn High School gym last September 3 when a heavy safety partition fell on her.  She was airlifted to a downstate hospital, where she died the next day.  Her mother was coaching cheerleaders in the gym at the time.

The Filizetti family has filed a lawsuit against the school district and others, claiming employees had warned that the partition needed to be reattached to the gym wall.  They say it’s a case of negligence.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
