Iron County murder suspect says no to plea deal

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   Accused murderer Kelly Cochran has rejected a plea deal that would have prevented her from spending the rest of her life in prison.

The 33-year-old former Iron River resident is charged with open murder in the death of Christopher Regan, 53, in 2014.

On Monday the Iron County prosecutor offered Cochran a plea deal that included prison time less than a mandatory life sentence should she be convicted of open murder by a jury.  But Cochran declined the agreement, saying she was willing to take the risk of a longer sentence.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
