Soo suspects get prison time for child sexually abusive activity

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Two child predators have been sentenced to prison in Chippewa County.

William Brice, 44, of Sault Ste. Marie pleaded guilty to three counts of child sexually abusive activity. He was accused of arranging to meet three children, ages 17, 13, and 10, at a local motel to produce child pornography.

Brice was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Benjamin Simpkin, 42, of the Soo was arrested after he arranged to have sex with a minor at a local hotel. He pleaded guilty to child sexually abusive activity and lying to police in a felony investigation.

Simpkin also received a 20-year sentence.

Both were sentenced March 14th in 50th Circuit Court.

The Upper Peninsula Human Trafficking Task Force assisted in the cases.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
