Prosecutor to become next Marquette County judge

MARQUETTE, MI— Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Marquette County Prosecutor Matt Wiese the next 25th Circuit Court judge.

Wiese has worked in the Prosecutor’s Office for more than 30 years, including two years as Chief Assistant.

He previously served as a staff attorney for the Battered Women’s Justice Project and as Associate Dean of Students at Northern Michigan University.

Among other projects, Wiese helped create the Blueprint for Safety, an Interagency Model Community Response to Domestic Violence. He also assisted in developing and promoting a county-wide law enforcement policy for domestic violence cases in Marquette County.

Wiese will fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi. His term begins November 27th, 2023 and ends January 1st, 2025.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
