Brunette sentenced for child abuse

ESCANABA, MI--   A Gladstone man found guilty of abusing his girlfriend’s son last October has been sentenced. 

Allen Joseph Brunette, 23, was given four to six years in prison with credit for 236 days already served Wednesday in Delta County Circuit Court.

A jury found Brunette guilty of second-degree child abuse last month following a five-day trial.  He was accused of beating his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son while the boy’s mother was at work.  The child spent time in the intensive care unit for his injuries.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
