Woman accused of throwing drugs over Marquette prison fence

MARQUETTE, MI--   Authorities say someone apparently tried to get illegal drugs into Marquette Branch Prison by tossing them over a fence to an inmate.

The failed attempt happened Monday night in a wooded area on prison property.

State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections say a female tried to throw the drugs over the fence.  She was taken into custody, along with three males found nearby.  They were later set free as an investigation into the incident continues.  Names weren't immediately released.

The Corrections Department says what appeared to be illegal drugs were also found in a prisoner's cell.  They say such an attempt to get drugs into the normally secure prison is unusual.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
