Man arrested in Calumet Township for stealing vehicle, leading police on chase

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Washington State man has been arrested for stealing a van from a Calumet business.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an attempted break-in of Harters Party Store in Calumet Tuesday around 11:15 p.m.  During the investigation deputies received a report of a silver minivan driving erratically on North Tamarack Road.  When officials tried to stop the van, its driver led them on a chase to M-203 in Calumet Township, where the chase ended.

Deputies learned the vehicle had been taken from a nearby business.

The 22-year-old suspect was arrested for fleeing and eluding, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, and operating while intoxicated.  Police also believe he was involved in the breaking and entering complaint.

The incident remains under investigation.
