Update: Police identify man found dead by burned car

UPDATE -

State Police have identified the victim as 56-year old Samuel Louis Longtine, of Skandia. Troopers say they do not suspect foul play, but are awaiting toxicology reports for the specific cause of death. Police believe Longtine was likely plowing snow on his property when his vehicle caught fire.

WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP--   State Police from the Negaunee Post have found the body of a missing man outside of his burned vehicle in West Branch Township. 

Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. troopers were dispatched on a report that a 56-year-old subject was missing from his Skandia Township home.  While responding to the call troopers discovered the missing vehicle and the subject’s body within a mile of the man’s residence on County Road JH.

Police are treating the death as suspicious. 

An autopsy is planned for Thursday at Marquette General Hospital. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
