Gwinn duo arrested in jewelry theft

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two Gwinn residents have been arrested for stealing jewelry.

The Marquette Police Department says the arrests of Jason Joe Bennett, 34, and Christina Ann-Lane Koskela, 25, are the result of a two-month-long investigation.

Officers say Koskela’s 75-year-old grandmother reported her jewelry was stolen from her apartment while she was away on vacation.  A review of records from a local jewelry store revealed the stolen items

were sold during that time.

Koskela is charged with larceny in a building—punishable by up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Bennett is charged with conspiracy to commit larceny in a building—which carries the same penalties—and a misdemeanor count of receiving and concealing stolen property, $200 or more but less than $1,000.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
