Another phone scam hits Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   Con artists are thinking of newer ways to get money from the public.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety says the most recent phone scam in the area involves the caller identifying himself as an officer from the department.  The caller then asks for a credit card donation for the alleged support of wounded officers and the families of police killed in the line of duty.  The origin of the call is Nevada, and the number is 702-978-6925.

Officers say the department has never asked for such funding.  They say they will never solicit over the telephone or ask for a credit card.
