Phone scam involves Marquette BLP

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Board of Light and Power is letting residents know there’s a telephone scam making the rounds.

Officials say several commercial customers have been contacted by someone saying their electricity would be cut off within the hour unless payment was made through a credit card or financial information.

The BLP says the calls are not originating from the Board of Light and Power. Officials say do not give out any information to the caller, but if a scammer does call, write down the phone number, hang up, and call the BLP at 228-0311.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
