Aramark employee accused of hit attempt

KINCHELOE, MI (AP)--   State police say a prison food service worker in the Eastern U.P. is suspected of approaching an inmate about arranging to have another inmate killed.

Detective Sgt. Michael Schroeder tells the Detroit Free Press that police sent a warrant request to the Chippewa County prosecutor's office following an investigation into the allegation about the worker for Philadelphia-based contractor Aramark Correctional Services.

Schroeder says a Kinross Correctional Facility inmate complained in July that a food service worker approached him about arranging to kill an inmate held at another facility.  Schroeder says the worker is banned from prison property.

Aramark spokeswoman Karen Cutler says she wouldn't comment on an active police investigation.

Aramark' work has been under scrutiny. Michigan fined the company $200,000 last month and there's an independent monitor in place.
