Man accused of shooting at troopers to undergo competency exam

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A Dickinson County judge has ordered a competency exam for a Norway man accused of shooting at State Police troopers.

Richard Goodreau, 49, is charged with assault with intent to murder, malicious destruction of police property, felony firearms, and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.  Two troopers were injured in the February incident when they tried to serve a warrant at Goodreau’s home.

Goodreau pleaded not guilty as his circuit court arraignment this week.  Judge Richard Celello ordered an exam to determine if Goodreau would be able to stand trial.

No further court dates have been scheduled
