Caller trying to scam Escanaba residents

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety reports phone scams are once again making the rounds.

Residents are being contacted by someone claiming to be from a local financial institution who says there’s been fraudulent activity on the resident’s account.  The caller then asks the resident to verify their account information.

Police say never give your personal or financial details to someone over the phone unless you made the call to a trusted source, and never send or wire money or give credit card information or online account details to anyone you don’t know and trust.

They suggest ordering a credit report every year to make sure someone isn’t using your name to borrow money or run up debts.
