Domestic violence blamed in Menominee County woman's murder

CEDARVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man is in custody in connection with the death of a Menominee County woman.

State Police from the Gladstone Post say the body of Jolene Eichhorn, 43, was found Wednesday around 6:30 a.m. in the trunk of a car at Cedar River State Harbor Park in Cedarville Township.  Her personal effects were scattered near the vehicle.

Officials say Gregory Ihander, 48, has been arrested and charged with homicide-open murder.  He and Eichhorn allegedly had a dating relationship, and officials are calling her death a tragic case of domestic violence.

Ihander faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged.  He remains lodged in the Menominee County Jail on a $1 million bond.

A probable cause hearing is set for September 24 in Menominee County District Court.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab, Menominee County Sheriff's Department, Menominee Police Department, Marinette Police Department, and Marinette County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
