Embezzlement arrests made in Newberry

NEWBERRY, MI--   A Luce County couple has been arrested for embezzling funds from a Newberry gas station.  

In October Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post began an investigation into the actions of a husband and wife who worked at Pickleman’s Petro. On Tuesday troopers arrested Thomas Gendron, 67, and Michelle Gendron, 42, of McMillan.

Michelle Gendron is charged with embezzlement of $100,000 or more and conspiracy to commit embezzlement of $100,000 or more.  She’s lodged at the Alger County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Thomas Gendron is charged with conspiracy to commit embezzlement of $100,000 or more.  He is being held at the Chippewa County Jail on a $150,000 bond. 

Officials looked into financial transactions that took place between 2011 and last October.  The investigation continues.   

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
