Theft of Medicaid, Social Security benefits lands Menominee man in prison

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee man was sentenced by a federal judge to 18 months in prison Wednesday for the theft of government funds.

Edward Cornman, 49, pleaded guilty in June to lying about his work history and assets to obtain Medicaid benefits. From 2010 to 2019, Cornman also failed to disclose his assets and work activities to the Social Security Administration. As a result, he improperly received Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, and other benefits.

Over the approximately ten-year period, Cornman received nearly $298,000 in benefits. He’s been ordered to pay everything back as restitution.
