Scammers posing as Michigan State Police

WAKEFIELD, MI— The Michigan State Police Wakefield Post says phone scams where callers are posing as troopers are circulating in the area.

Citizens say they’ve been getting calls from someone stating they’re from the Michigan State Police and are seeking donations. Other scammers say Reader’s Digest has money for them.

Often, the caller ID shows the calls are coming from known numbers, but are most likely coming from out of the country.

The Michigan State Police does not ask for donations from the public in any manner. Anyone who receives a call like this should hang up and report it to their local Michigan State Police post.
