Gold scam pops up again in MI and WI

WAKEFIELD, MI— Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post are warning residents about an old scam once again making the rounds in the area, as well as in lower Michigan and Wisconsin.

Troopers say the scam begins when someone asks for money to buy gas to get home. If they’re denied money, the scammers offer to sell gold jewelry they claim to be worth thousands of dollars at a steeply discounted price.

The gold may have an 18-karat stamp, but when it's verified, the gold turns out to be fake.

Anyone who sees this suspicious activity is asked to contact police immediately.
