Vehicle drives off pier in Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI— A Macomb County man has been arrested, after he drove his car into Lake Superior.

Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post say the incident happened Saturday around 4:30 a.m. Troopers responded to a report that a vehicle had driven off Whitefish Point State Harbor Pier. When they arrived, they found the driver and the sole passenger had gotten out of the vehicle without injury.

The driver—a 45-year-old Fraser resident—was arrested for operating while intoxicated and carrying concealed firearms while under the influence. He was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
