Theft of firewood in Forsyth Township leads to homicide arrest of Indiana woman

Lawrence County Sheriff's Department

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— An Indiana woman suspected of killing her daughter was found stealing firewood in Forsyth Township last month.

Forsyth Township Police were alerted to the thefts from Tourist Park Campground on September 16th. Video surveillance provided a description of the vehicle involved. Later that day, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description.

A passenger in the vehicle, Cheyenne Hill, 33, of Bedford, Indiana, was found to have a valid extraditable warrant out for her arrest for child neglect, causing death.

Hill is a suspect in the 2022 death of her 20-month-old daughter, Elliaunna Plummer. Elli died November 26th after she was hospitalized with a brain bleed, a broken collar bone, and facial bruising. Officials say she had a swollen and deformed head with bruising to her forehead and both sides of her face.

Hill was lodged in the Marquette County Jail and extradited back to Indiana to face charges.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
