Fraudulent Marquette County listings discovered on Zillow

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam warning related to online house listings.

Deputies were notified Wednesday of fraudulent real estate postings on Zillow.com. Suspects are offering properties for sale by owner, but they don’t own the property. Actual Marquette County homes are being listed in an attempt to deceive prospective buyers.

Police are offering tips on how to spot fake listings on Zillow:

  • Is the property is listed for an amount below the suggested value?
  • Are there no recent photographs?
  • Are the sellers requesting cash or currency immediately?

The Sheriff’s Office says if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects in this scam are asked to call the Tip Line at 906-225-8441.
