No toll roads in Michigan, MDOT reminds residents

LANSING, MI— Following a phishing attempt mimicking the Michigan Department of Transportation, MDOT officials are urging residents not to fall for the most recent scam.

State Transportation Director Bradley Wieferich says the scam features a fraudulent state website with a different URL. It tells people they owe money from traveling on state toll roads.

Wieferich says MDOT does not operate any toll roads. Some state-owned bridges are tolled, but not through license plate capture. No one would receive a bill through text or email.

Recipients of fraudulent texts should not click on any links or share personal or financial information. The text should be reported as junk and deleted.
