ESCANABA, MI-- A new beer maker is coming to the U.P.
Bell's Brewery owner Larry Bell met with Escanaba officials to discuss the purchase of just over three acres of land. Bell wants to construct a $2.5 million brewery and bottling facility in the Whitetail Industrial Park, which he says is an easily accessible spot for operations. The facility will employ five people.
Bell says the brewery will produce three or four new types of beers.
“We have the trademark on ‘Upper Hand’,” he says. “Of course, when we show our state you have to use your left hand to show that part of the state, right? And we also have a trademark on… well, instead of IPA, we have a trademark on ‘UPA’: Upper Peninsula Ale. So, those are a couple of fun ones we have.”
Officials approved the sale of the land for $30,000. Bell was also given the right of first refusal to purchasing land adjacent to the initial acreage.
He hopes to break ground this summer and have construction completed within 18 months.
