MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   The sale of the Rio Tinto Eagle Mine in Marquette County has been finalized.

The transaction with Lundin Mining Corporation has achieved regulatory approval and Lundin now assumes day-to-day management of Eagle.

Construction of the nickel and copper mine began in June of 2010 and is now more than 50 percent complete.  Production is slated for late 2014.

Lundin is a base metals mining company with operations in Portugal, Sweden and Spain mining copper, zinc, lead, and nickel.  It also has a stake in a copper and cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a cobalt refinery in Finland.
