ESCANABA, MI (AP)-- Escanaba fourth-graders are combining art and science in a learning program run by the Bonifas Fine Arts Center.
The Daily Press of Escanaba reports that the students at Escanaba Upper Elementary School will take three day trips to Portage Point in the program sponsored by U.P. Sustainable Forest & Wildlife Fund and Dagenais Foundation.
The goal is to expose them to the outdoors, where they learn about nature journaling and its relationship to science. They will learn the history of journals, study Point history and artistically record it through pencil, ink and watercolors.
Gregg Bruff, a retired park ranger for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, is the lead instructor. He says the program is a way to get children outdoors while learning the importance of writing and drawing.
