Ishpeming Public Schools set sights on future goals

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Ishpeming School District is in the process of developing a three- to five-year strategic plan.

Superintendent Carrie Meyer says officials are looking at what the district’s strengths are and what needs to improve.

“It’s important to us that we provide a good education, a strong education, while being fiscally responsible. We want to spend our resources as wisely as possible, especially with resources being so limited in public education today,” she says.

Students, teachers, administration, and the public have provided input on where they’d like to see the district go. Meyer says the Michigan Association of School Boards will take that data and compare it with five other districts of comparable size, demographics, and geography.

“And so we can use that information—everything that makes up a school district—and really take the time to compare the different districts. And then looking at our goals and strategies that we’ve created, where we want to go, try to best utilize our resources with comparisons,” she says.

Meyer says in April and May administrators will meet with staff to set up strategies and move the plan forward.
