MARQUETTE, MI-- Northern Michigan University is starting a week earlier this fall, in anticipation of returning to face-to-face instruction.
Classes will begin August 17 and end before Thanksgiving on November 24.
The NMU Board of Trustees held a virtual meeting Monday and approved the revised academic calendar. President Fritz Erickson says the new schedule is designed to prevent students from traveling home, then coming back to campus to complete the semester. He notes officials are keeping the possibility of a fall resurgence of COVID-19 in mind.
Commencement is tentatively scheduled for November 21. There will be no designated final examination period, which is typically held the final week leading up to commencement. Instructors will have the discretion to schedule exams, as appropriate.
