MTU Board approves new master plan

HOUGHTON, MI— Michigan Tech has a new campus master plan.

At a meeting Friday, the university’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to adopt the schematic, following two years of planning. Plan developers focused on creating spaces for collaboration that put technology on display. That requires efficient use of limited land. Officials want to create state-of-the-art facilities designed to celebrate outdoor space, create a public realm, and engage the waterfront.

A renovation program for classrooms and classroom laboratories will be the first phase of implementing the master plan, and will be financed by a University bond issue. One highlight in the plan is the Center for Convergence and Innovation, which will house the College of Computing and the College of Business.

The master plan also calls for the construction of a new residence hall.
