NMU lowers flags in honor of beloved professor

Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, MI— The Northern Michigan University flag has been lowered to half-staff in remembrance of a faculty member who passed away last week.

Dr. Jeff Horn worked in the Math and Computer Science Department. He began teaching computer science classes at Northern in 1996, and was Northern's first computer scientist with a PhD.

Horn was also passionate about robotics and genetic algorithms, which inspired the bulk of his research and grants. He developed and patented an algorithm that solved a certain class of shape nesting problems.

Dr. Horn passed away on February 5th of natural causes.
